![]() ![]() During one presentation, a student stood up and revealed that he’d formulated a plan to bring a gun to class and kill some fellow students but changed his mind after reading the book. The book is part of the curriculum in more than 100 schools in the United States, and Picoult has visited schools to talk about the book. There was a rousing round of applause after she talked about “Nineteen Minutes,” a book about a school shooting and the aftermath. When she received an F on her paper, her mother visited the school, had her daughter removed from the class and from then on her teachers fostered her writing. ![]() Picoult wrote from the perspective of the piano she’d been practicing all summer.
